Kim Ryan is a Tax Partner at RubinBrown LLP and serves as Tax Leader, Not-for-Profit and Colleges & Universities. With more than 15 years of experience in public accounting, Kim brings deep expertise to her work with exempt organizations, particularly in the nonprofit and higher education sectors. Prior to joining RubinBrown, Kim began her career at a Big Four accounting firm, where she developed a strong foundation in complex tax matters affecting tax-exempt entities.
Kim advises clients on a wide range of issues, including tax planning, IRS Form 990 and 990-PF preparation, unrelated business income, and governance best practices. She frequently consults on sensitive areas such as excess benefit transactions, self-dealing, and charitable gift structuring. Her work also includes representing clients in IRS examination matters and assisting with entity formation and strategic tax planning.
Kim holds a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law, a Juris Doctor from the University of Nebraska College of Law, and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Iowa State University.
She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Colorado Society of CPAs, the California Board of Accountancy, and the Nebraska State Bar Association. Kim is also active in the community, serving on the Continuing Education Board for the COCPA, the Finance Committee of Family Tree, and as Treasurer/Secretary and Board Member for Colorado Youth for a Change.

Gregory Clifton, J.D. is a Professor of Accounting at MSU Denver. He currently serves as the Chair of the Accounting Department. He earned his law degree (JD) at Thomas M. Cooley Law School and an LLM in Taxation from the University of Denver. Professor Clifton is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Georgia as well as the US Tax Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Professor Clifton continues to operate a small private practice advising small businesses and individuals on tax matters.
