Whether they most remember attending camp, earning badges, volunteering in the community, or selling the iconic cookies, millions of women have fond memories of their years as Girl Scouts, where the tenets of courage, confidence, and character helped shape them as children.
The spring 2024 issue of NewsAccount, now available digitally, profiles three COCPA members and former Girls Scouts who are giving back by serving on the Girl Scouts of Colorado Board of Directors. Among the life lessons that Crystal Eustis, CPA, Megan Flori King, CPA, Angela Roberts, CPA, attribute to their Girl Scouts years and use today are the importance of teamwork, an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to think on one’s feet, and a willingness to overcome fears and try new things.
“All of those things apply to serving on the board today,” says Eustis. “I’ve truly enjoyed the opportunity to learn new skills in the board room.”
“Girl Scouts always reminds me of the importance of community,” Flori King adds. “We win or lose together. It’s important to build that camaraderie because no one succeeds alone. We succeed with a support system around us.”
Beyond the work that takes place in the board room, Roberts says that success isn’t always found on a financial statement. “It’s in the experience, lessons, and impact that you make, whatever your passion is,” she says. “Our goal as an organization is to give every girl the opportunity to go to camp or be a part of Girl Scouts.”
