Thirty-eight Colorado accounting students are pursuing their educational dreams thanks to the generosity of donors to the COCPA Educational Foundation’s scholarship program, with this year’s awards totaling $105,000.

These scholarships provide critical support to students as they pursue their degrees and work toward becoming CPAs. The funds allow them to spend more time focused on their studies, pursuing professional development, gaining experience, and preparing for CPA licensure.

But these scholarships are about more than financial assistance. They are investments in the future of the accounting profession, and their impact goes beyond dollars.

As scholarship recipient Roberto Erives recently shared with the crowd at the CPAs Make a Difference gala, “One day, I will be able to give back to a profession that opened a door otherwise closed to low-income families who cannot afford this kind of opportunity. To everyone who teaches, mentors, or donates, know you are creating opportunities for students like me to rewrite our futures.”

In the fall 2026 issue of NewsAccount, available digitally, another recipient, a nontraditional student, notes that the Educational Foundation’s support “allows me to focus more of my time and energy on my academic and professional goals rather than the financial challenges that often accompany higher education.”

More Than Scholarships

Scholarships are just one way by which the COCPA Educational Foundation promotes accounting education and supports the future of the profession in Colorado. The Foundation also supports programs and initiatives that provide students with opportunities to connect with the profession, including awards, mentorship opportunities, and outreach efforts. 

Through these programs, the Foundation works to introduce students to the possibilities within accounting and help them build meaningful connections with professionals who can encourage and guide them along the way.
