Colorado Is Well Represented: 19 COCPA Members Named to Forbes' 2026 Best-in-State CPAs List

When Forbes set out to identify the most exceptional practicing CPAs in America, Colorado's accounting community showed up in a big way.

Forbes has released its 2026 Best-in-State CPAs list — only the second year the publication has produced this recognition — and 19 COCPA members are among the honorees. Of the 26 Colorado CPAs named to the list, nearly three-quarters hold COCPA membership. It's a remarkable showing that speaks to the depth of talent and dedication within Colorado's CPA community.

About the Recognition

The Forbes Best-in-State CPAs list is developed in collaboration with market research firm Statista through a rigorous, multi-step process that combines editorial research, independent nominations, and evaluation by an industry advisory board. Candidates are assessed across a range of weighted criteria — including expertise, innovation, thought leadership, experience, and service to their communities and the profession. Critically, candidates do not pay any fee to be considered.

As Forbes has described the list: "Behind each listed CPA is a professional serving businesses, nonprofits, governments, entrepreneurs — and ultimately the taxpayers of America."

Nominations for the list are sourced in part through state CPA associations, making COCPA's role as a connector and advocate for Colorado's profession a direct part of why so many of our members are represented.

A Reflection of Colorado's CPA Community

What stands out about this list isn't just the individual achievements — it's the breadth. These 19 honorees represent firms of every size, from solo practices and regional firms to Big Four and national players. They're spread across the state, from Fort Collins to Grand Junction to Lakewood. They work across every practice area: audit, tax, advisory, and beyond.

Several of them are also actively engaged in COCPA leadership. Alexandra Tune is currently serving as COCPA Board Chair, with Jim Gilbert stepping into the Chair role this November. Paul Elggren, Sarah Flischel, and Tiffany Knight are all serving on the 2026-27 COCPA Board of Directors or Educational Foundation Board of Trustees. Their recognition by Forbes is a reminder that the same professionals leading our organization are also being recognized as among the best in the nation.
