Are you passionate about the future of the accounting profession in Colorado? Do you want to make a meaningful impact in service, leadership, and advocacy? If so, now is the time to consider stepping up—or encouraging someone you respect—to join the Board of Directors or the Educational Foundation Board of Trustees at the Colorado Society of CPAs (COCPA).

Why It Matters

Serving on these boards is much more than a title. It’s about influencing the priorities, vision, and direction of COCPA. Board members help ensure that the Society remains responsive to its members’ needs, proactive in education and professional standards, and strong in public trust. Whether you have deep experience or fresh perspectives, your involvement can help shape the issues that matter:

  • Membership value, benefits, and professional development
  • Emerging trends in accounting, tax, audit, and technology
  • Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives
  • Strategic challenges facing our profession

How It Works

Here’s the process and logistics in a nutshell:

  • Board Director terms are 2 years, and Trustee terms are 3 years.
  • All nominations—including self-nominations—are reviewed by the COCPA Board Nominating Committee.
  • If selected, nominees will be notified between October 1st and December 31st each year, with their service beginning the following May 1st.
  • Even if a self-nomination isn’t selected this year, it will be kept on file for future years. So don’t hesitate!

Who Should Consider Running?

You don’t have to check every box on someone’s ideal checklist. What matters is:

  • A desire to contribute, lead, and collaborate on behalf of CPAs in Colorado
  • Relevant experiences—work, volunteer, or leadership—that you can bring to the table
  • Commitment of time and effort to meetings, strategy, and mentorship
  • Vision: what issues do you believe COCPA must tackle in the coming years?

Want to see more diversity of perspective? More emerging professionals? More voices from different sectors like tax, audit, public practice, industry, nonprofits, and government? Your viewpoint could be just what COCPA needs.

How to Nominate

To nominate someone—or yourself—just fill out the COCPA Board / Educational Foundation Board Nomination Form. Key things you’ll need:

  • Contact and employment information
  • Why you (or your nominee) are interested
  • What experience you bring
  • Your take on the top three issues COCPA should address in upcoming years
  • A resume (PDF preferable) and optionally a LinkedIn profile link

The Impact of Your Nomination

By nominating someone—or stepping up yourself—you help ensure that COCPA remains vibrant, responsive, and aligned with the evolving landscape of accounting. Board members drive policy, shape educational offerings, oversee strategic initiatives, and safeguard the profession’s integrity.
