Earlier this summer, Senator Paul Lundeen resigned from the Colorado General Assembly after over a decade of service, leaving his position as Senate Minority Leader. Senator Cleave Simpson of Alamosa, a CPA-PAC supported legislator and proven advocate for Colorado businesses and communities, stepped into the vital leadership role.

The CPA-PAC works to build relationships with lawmakers across party lines, ensuring a strong and influential presence in the legislative process. Senator Simpson, representing State Senate District 6, which spans the San Luis Valley to Durango, was supported by the CPA-PAC based on his effective caucus leadership and strong collaboration on issues important to the accounting profession and Colorado’s broader business community. Passionate about agriculture and water management, Senator Simpson has been at the forefront of developing sustainable water solutions in the face of drought and resource challenges. As a member of the Senate Finance Committee, he has advocated for initiatives that align closely with CPA-PAC priorities like responsible fiscal policy and workforce development.

Supporting Senator Simpson early in his legislative journey has allowed CPAs to build rapport with a lawmaker who now plays a leading role in shaping state policy. His ascent to Senate Minority Leader underscores the importance of identifying and equipping future legislative champions early on, fostering relationships that continue to benefit the profession.
