Authentic Connection: The Power of Networking
In this age of digital communication, where social interactions often occur through screens and keyboards, the value of face-to-face networking seems, at times, to get lost in translation. Yet the importance of peer networking and in-person connection remains as strong as ever. Let's dive into why in-person peer networking is invaluable in both our personal and professional lives.
Meeting someone in person allows for a deeper level of connection compared to online interactions. Body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice convey nuances that text or video alone cannot capture. These subtle cues foster empathy and understanding, laying the foundation for genuine relationships. In a professional context, genuine connections often lead to trust, collaboration, and opportunities for growth.
Interacting in person with a diverse group of peers exposes you to different perspectives, backgrounds, and ideas. These interactions broaden your horizons, challenge your assumptions, and inspire new ways of thinking. Whether attending conferences, networking events, or informal meetups, each encounter offers an opportunity for personal and professional growth through exposure to new people, ideas, and viewpoints.
While online interactions can be convenient and efficient, they often lack the depth required to develop and nurture lasting relationships. On the other hand, face-to-face interactions allow us to invest time and energy into cultivating meaningful connections. By prioritizing in-person interactions, we not only enrich our own lives but also contribute to a more connected and vibrant community.
As part of its mission, the COCPA works to help people thrive personally and professionally by facilitating meaningful connections and encouraging diversity and inclusion within the accounting profession. To help accomplish this goal, the COCPA created the Member Connections Committee (MCC) and charged the group with creating opportunities for both members and nonmembers to engage with the Society and with one another.
To that end, the MCC is pleased to launch the 2024 COCPA Summer of Fun series, with our first event, Sip and Socialize Wine Tasting at Bigsby’s Folly, coming to RiNo on May 9 from 5 to 8 pm.
We hope to see you at Bigsby’s Folly and encourage you to attend the remaining Summer of Fun events as well:
- June 19, 6-9 pm, Rockies Baseball and Banter
- July 23, 5:30-7:30 pm, Drive Your Connections, Topgolf Networking
- August 28, 5-7:30 pm, Crafty Pairings Brews & Bites at Blue Moon Brewery
And in the spirit of connection and inclusion, don't forget to bring along your colleagues and friends!
