The accounting profession is evolving rapidly, and early-career entrants must be equipped with the right competencies to thrive in an AI-enabled workforce. This session explores the AICPA's research-backed framework for identifying what today's employers need from new professionals—and where critical gaps currently exist. Drawing on current findings, attendees will examine the competencies most essential for early entrants, the areas where incoming talent consistently falls short, and the resources AICPA is developing to close those gaps. Key takeaways include: understanding research-based competencies required of early-career professionals, recognizing the most significant competency gaps identified through AICPA research, and exploring actionable resources and strategies educators and firms can use to better prepare the next generation of accounting talent.

This presentation explores the new world of AI and how we can teach accounting students to embrace it and use it to their advantage. In this presentation I will provide critical background information and examples of classroom exercises.
