Public Transportation

Take the bus and relax while someone else does the driving. In addition to local bus service, Denver’s RTD offers several express buses and light rail that will take you from one of its Park-and-Ride locations to the CSCPA office. For bus stop and light rail locations, routes, and schedule information, visit RTD Denver.

Carpooling

Contact the CPE Department at (303) 773-2877 or (800) 523-9082 for help finding someone from your area who has registered for a particular course and with whom you might share a ride.

CPE Requirements

How many hours of CPE does a CPA need to keep his or her certificate active? And, how does this compare with the CPE membership requirements for the CSCPA?

The answer depends on the status of the CPA's certificate.

Colorado State Board of Accountancy CPE Requirements

Active Certificate 

• You must complete 80 hours of CPE over the 2-year reporting period that runs January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011
• No more than 16 hours may be in Personal Development. Principle-centered leadership, career planning, and time-management are examples of personal development subject matter
• Additionally, four hours of the 80 must be in ethics, of which up to two hours can be in CR&R
• 100 percent can be self-study 
• Newly licensed CPAs must take an ethics class that includes CR&R within the first six months of licensure

Inactive Certificate

• No CPE is required

Certificates During Renewal

• Ten hours for every full quarter left in the reporting period

CSCPA CPE Membership Requirements

Active Certificate with the Colorado State Board of Accountancy

• Engaged in public practice - 80 hours
• Not engaged in public practice - 80 hours 
• Certain Associate members in public practice – 80 hours

Inactive Certificate with Colorado Board of Accountancy

• Not engaged in public practice - 60 hours
• Certain Associate members not in public practice – 60 hours (The State Board does NOT require CPE for CPAs with inactive certificates.)
• Students, certain Associate members, firm administrators, retired, and life time members – no CPE requirement

CSCPA

CPAs today need to be proficient in various computer software applications. To help you gain the knowledge and experience you need, the CSCPA offers several computer technology courses. Click here to see a list of upcoming computer training classes.

Hands-on Computer Training

If you prefer hands-on computer training where each student is seated at his or her own terminal and provided step-by-step instruction about the capabilities and execution of various software programs, the CSCPA has formed a relationship with the technical training experts at LeaderQuest. LeaderQuest offers today’s popular business application packages, including MS Office, Web design and graphics, Crystal Reports, and QuickBooks. The company also offers technical training courses in Microsoft, Cisco, and CompTIA. With training locations in Englewood and Colorado Springs, LeaderQuest offers training classes for the beginner as well as the experienced computer user or programmer.
